With more than 200,000 listeners and more than 40,000 followers on Facebook, Country Radio has become a vital part of the local conversation, especially in rural and regional Australia.
And the latest news that’s making its way around the country is that the Australian Broadcasting Corporation is to give the country’s most popular radio station a new lease of life.
The new contract with the ABC will see Radio One, and its flagship show, The Morning Show, return to its usual format in 2017-18.
The news is a relief for listeners, and it’s an opportunity for listeners to get a taste of what’s new, with a fresh, new and improved radio station.
“I think that’s good news for listeners,” says Matt McBride, host of the popular podcast, The Great Country Radio Show.
“We can’t have a station that’s too boring, that’s just not good enough.
We want people to hear something new and exciting.”
And there’s no better way to hear new stuff than by listening to The Morning Podcast, which has been doing well since its debut in 2014.
In a recent episode, host David Collins described his first time listening to the show, which he says is a “huge, huge improvement on anything we’ve done in the past”.
“It’s the same old, same old country radio.
But it’s been tweaked a little bit,” he said.
“And a lot of the time it’s just been good.
I’m a big fan.
It’s a good place to be.”
Collins was able to get some of the most popular country radio shows on the air for a limited time.
In 2017, The Country Show, the Country Life Show, The Life of Country, The News Hour and The Morning show will all be available for a month, and a limited number of listeners will be able to download them on iTunes.
“It’ll give listeners a chance to hear a lot more of what we have going on, and that will make a big difference,” says McBride.
“They can see what we’re doing and what’s going on in their local area.
And then they can take a listen to what we’ve been doing for the last three years.”
“A lot of radio listeners love it when we’re out on the road, and we’ve seen that with a lot in the world.”
So what’s the deal with The Morning podcast?
Collins says it started off as a podcast, but it has evolved into a full-blown podcast.
“The first thing that I do on it is I try to record the whole podcast.

That’s a lot easier than I expected.

I get to take a photo of each episode and upload it to YouTube.
I upload it on my iPhone, and I record a video and put it on YouTube.”
The Morning shows will return to their usual format, and the new contract will allow listeners to download the episodes.
Collins says the new format has made the podcast more interesting.
“People love listening to podcasts, but there are certain podcasts that they’ve never listened to before,” he says.
“There’s a certain way that they go to a podcast that’s completely different to the way that we normally listen to podcasts.”
And that’s exactly what’s happening with the Morning Show.
It is the most listened-to podcast in Australia, with more than 2.6 million listeners, according to Nielsen.
Collins hopes the new show will bring people back to the podcast, and encourage people to come back.
“Radio One has a really big audience in rural Australia,” he explains.
“So the show that’s going to get the most listeners is The Morning.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens.
We’re going to try and bring that audience back.”
