President Rodrigo Duterte has said he’s not a big fan of the anti-cop rhetoric of the Philippine National Police (PNP), but the president also has an opinion about the anti cop.
In an exclusive interview with Vice News, Duterte said he was “very much in favor of” the anti police rhetoric, adding, “I am not a fan of [anti-police] slogans.”
“I am a supporter of the police, because they are my policemen,” he said, referring to the police officers.
“I will not be a fan, because I do not think the police is the best.
I will say this, and I say this with my own experience,” Duterte said.”
The police are there, the soldiers are there.
If you have to shoot, they are there and they will take the bullet,” he added.”
If you are in a situation of danger, you will be there, you cannot be anywhere else.”
Duterte said he “would not be satisfied” with a policeman who only shot people who were “suspected criminals.”
“You have to go with the facts.
If a suspect is in a police station, I will not have any problem with that.
I am not in favor with the idea of [a police] saying ‘We need to kill a suspect because he is a suspect.'””
But, you know, in the end, it is the people who are going to be killed,” he continued.
The President also said he had “no problem” with policemen shooting criminals.
“You do not have to be a murderer to be [in the police] employ,” he claimed.
“They are policemen, they have their rights.
They have their job to do,” Duterte continued.”
What I can say is that you do not shoot at people, you have the duty to kill the criminals.”
The PNP has said it will conduct a nationwide nationwide nationwide investigation into the death of the two policemen involved in the death last week of a 20-year-old man named Ronald “Ricky” Bautista, whom they said had been hit by a stray bullet from a PNP-accused gunman who was on the loose.
Duterte told Vice News he had personally witnessed the incident, which occurred at around 4:15 p.m. on April 10.
“We are going after the policemen who are guilty of this,” he asserted.
“When they kill a person, they do not want to be responsible.
They do not wish to be blamed.
If I saw it on video, I would kill them.”
The President, however, said he believed the incident was not justified.
“How is it the police kill the innocent?
I have never seen this before,” he insisted.
Duty to defendDuterte’s remarks, however the President also added he was in favor “of” police defending themselves.
“It is the duty of the policeman to defend himself, if there is an emergency, but also to defend the public,” he maintained.
“But if you have a situation where you have someone who has done something, it’s the duty on the policeman not to hurt that person,” he stressed.
“And I will tell you this, you should not shoot the person who has shot you,” Duterte added.
Dutertes also said the PNP should not “shoot to kill” if there are “no other options” to resolve a dispute.
“There are only two ways.
One, you can shoot them.
You can kill them.
But there are other ways,” he clarified.”
Or, you might have to put out a fire,” Duterte told Vice.
“That is the only way.
But you are supposed to put the fire out and leave.””
The second option is, we will come to the negotiation table,” he stated.DUTERTE TO PERSUADE PEOPLE’S OPPOSITION TO POLICE KILLINGS DUTERTS PERSECUTION POLICE OFFICERS DUTERTES’ TWEET: “If the police killed you, what will you do?

But I will never stop working with the police to resolve the problem,” he reiterated.”
